Flight Disruptions in America Set to Intensify, Transport Chief Warns

US air traffic controllers are more and more seeking additional employment and calling in sick, as they remain on duty without pay during the federal closure, the transport chief has announced.

The secretary added that on the previous day twenty-two notifications at airports indicated flights would be delayed due to a lack of workers - among the peak since the closure began.

The US government shutdown reached its twenty-sixth day on the weekend, making it the second-longest halt in history.

He has repeatedly warned that flight authorities would slow down the quantity of planes in the sky if there is a shortage of safety personnel.

In his interview, he declined to respond directly when asked if it was secure to travel by air in the United States, and instead made a personal plea to the professionals.

"I need my controllers concentrating on the flight paths, not on the monetary matters at their households," Duffy said.
