Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
