The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach a different club in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.

“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling in July.

“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for his teammates too. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
