The United Kingdom is set to progress with utilizing the total value of seized Russia's assets to aid Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a joint statement, the officials of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.
They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in strong partnership with the United States.
British penalties have blocked more than £25bn of Russia's resources since Russia began its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, up to this point, resources sent to Ukraine using Russian assets had solely been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.
Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to push forward toward employing the full value of the frozen Moscow's national assets to conclude the conflict.
He stated that further measures soon would heighten the tension on Moscow.
This declaration comes after EU representatives met in Copenhagen previously to discuss using frozen Russia's assets for a €140bn credit to Ukraine.
In the previous month, US President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or utilize seized Russian funds, according to news outlets.
The total of frozen Russia's funds in the EU is calculated to be nearly €211bn.
President Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the PURL program
Moscow executed large-scale missile and drone strikes all over the Ukrainian territory on that day, causing electricity outages in many areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.
Several persons were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the strike, the Ukrainian government stated.
In a update on social media following the strike, Zelensky commented that the strategic strike aimed at civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What is required is not mere statements but firm measures - from the United States, Europe, and the G7 - in providing anti-aircraft weapons and applying sanctions," he wrote.
"All penalty impositions diminishes the Russian war effort," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.
Additionally that day, Zelensky informed the press he would press Sir Keir to join the Purl scheme, under which Nato countries buy military equipment from the America to give to Ukraine.
While applauding the Britain's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the program, as well as enforce further restrictions on the Russian Federation.
